Most of the industrial loads e.g. motor and transformers are inductive in nature and the power factor will be on the lagging side. Adequate reactive compensation is required at the consumer end to improve the power factor and effectively utilize the allotted Maximum demand. In a highly volatile load environment, the reactive requirement of the loads is to maintain the power factor and to control the Relay power (kVA).

To maintain the power factor generally fixed capacitors are installed in industries at various load centers balanced to the connected load level. In the fixed compensation system the number of capacitors (kVAr) connected in the system will be always constant irrespective of the load variations. In such conditions, ambiance the power factor maintenance is high difficult ambiance of variable load pattern and the overall plant power factor will tend to be lagging or leading.

The leading power factor (i.e. excessive capacitors than the requirement) in the system will result in an excessive rise in the transient voltage during switching of loads and leads to insulation failures in the equipment and generates harmonic oscillations.

    Nitel MD Control Panel can be used stand-alone or integrated with economical PC based Enterprise Energy Management Software. The "Nitel" MD Controller determines the total electrical energy consumption within a facility by monitoring power utility mains feeding the facility. Through the "Nitel" MD Control Panel logs on board total power used, instantaneous power, accumulated demand and peak demand. During a period of high-energy consumption "Nitel" MD Control Panel performs automatic control actions to limit demand. This can be achieved either by shedding non-critical load or by starting one or more backup generators in order to reduce the amount of electrical energy supplied by the utility. The "Nitel" MD Control Panel uses 2 No. of onboard solid state relay outputs volt free contracts (280 V AC RMS max,100 mA max) to perform demand Control or programmable set point control functions.
